ACRLI and The Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law (HiiL) organize an international meeting on "Recent Events in the Arab Countries: Horizons, Challenges, and Consequences of the Rule of Law and Justice Reforms" (The Hague, Netherlands May 23- 24, 2011)

Within its partnership with The Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law (HiiL) and against the background of the recent wave of political change in the MENA region, ACRLI and HiiL organized an international meeting on: “Recent Events in the Arab Countries: Horizons, Challenges, and Consequences of the Rule of Law and Justice Reforms”, which was held on 23-24 May, 2011 at The Hague, Netherlands.

The aim of the meeting is to identify and prioritize the most pressing challenges, issues, problems and needs for reforms, as seen by local actors of different perspectives, and accordingly identify the appropriate strategies and paths for reform.

The meeting brought together knowledge, expertise and experience from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia and Yemen and participants with different backgrounds (state officials, civil society activists, media representatives and academics). They were joined by representatives of donor states and organizations, as well as a selection of internationally renowned academics with expertise on rule of law promotion and legal systems.
