Workshop on “Developing the Training Curriculum at the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) in Iraq” (16-17 July 2010)

In the context of the Project on “Provision of Legal Training Components for Legal Institutions in Iraq”, the Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) has organized a workshop on “Developing the Training Curriculum at the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) in Iraq” on 16-17 July, 2010, which was held in Hotel Monroe in Beirut, Lebanon. This workshop brought together Iraqi stakeholders from the Judicial Training Institute, Ministry of Justice, Higher Judicial Council, and pilot courts in addition to regional and international experts and members of the Project’s International Advisory Group.

The main purpose of this workshop was to discuss the assessment report prepared by the Project Team on the status of the Iraqi Judicial Training Institute; this report comprises the results of field investigations and surveys conducted in Iraq for this purpose. Furthermore, the workshop proposed a strategy to develop the JTI curriculum and enhance the work flow of the institute through developing its library references and equipping it with modern information systems. In order to complete this objective, the workshop highlighted the Iraqi specificities, the status of judicial education and training in Iraq, as well as the training materials and equipments available at the JTI. Accordingly, the Project shall identify training materials required by the institute and as a result put forward recommendations for introducing a modern curriculum and developed working tools.
