First
International Meeting: Laws’ Reform between aspiration and reality (Egypt- Cairo, 27-28 June, 2007)
On June 29-30 an international conference was held in the Arab League
premises where a research paper was discussed highlighting the existing laws
in the five countries that are not in line with international standards for
the freedom of association in the Arab world.
In the second day, three workshops were held discussing the political
parties, the labour unions and the CSOs. Policy papers resulted from these
workshops reflecting the governments’ fears and the ambitions of the
targeted parties stressing on the ways of achieving the standards of the
freedom of association in the Arab countries.
The purpose of the conference was to obtain support from international and
regional networks and policy makers in addition to promoting the objectives
of the project, and bringing together the stakeholders and the concerned
forces of the society.
