First International Meeting: Laws’ Reform between aspiration and reality (Egypt- Cairo, 27-28 June, 2007)

On June 29-30 an international conference was held in the Arab League premises where a research paper was discussed highlighting the existing laws in the five countries that are not in line with international standards for the freedom of association in the Arab world.
In the second day, three workshops were held discussing the political parties, the labour unions and the CSOs. Policy papers resulted from these workshops reflecting the governments’ fears and the ambitions of the targeted parties stressing on the ways of achieving the standards of the freedom of association in the Arab countries.
The purpose of the conference was to obtain support from international and regional networks and policy makers in addition to promoting the objectives of the project, and bringing together the stakeholders and the concerned forces of the society.
