The Arab Center for the Development of the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) is an Arab regional, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 2003 by a group of judges, specialists in rule of law, lawyers and academics from various Arab countries.


 Project on "Training for the Yemeni Judiciary" 

The Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) is currently implementing a Project entitled “Training for the Yemeni Judiciary” which comes within a broader Yemen Justice and Policing Programme- YJPP implemented by GRM International (GRM).
The YJPP mainly aims focus on working with the justice and police agencies in Yemen so that they can be better placed and more able to mitigate and manage conflict. YJJP, furthermore, intends to create a fair accessibility for its people especially the poor.

 Workshop on “Developing the Training Curriculum at the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) in Iraq” (16-17 July 2010) 

In the context of the Project on “Provision of Legal Training Components for Legal Institutions in Iraq”, the Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) has organized a workshop on “Developing the Training Curriculum at the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) in Iraq” on 16-17 July, 2010, which was held in Hotel Monroe in Beirut, Lebanon. This workshop brought together Iraqi stakeholders from the Judicial Training Institute, Ministry of Justice, Higher Judicial Council, and pilot courts in addition to regional and international experts and members of the Project’s International Advisory Group.

 Cooperation Protocol between The Arab Center for the Development of the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) and “L’Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature de France”, Paris-France (04 May 2010)

The Arab Center for the Development of the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) signed on 04 May 2010 a cooperation protocol in Paris- France with “L’Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature de France”. This protocol aims at developing and implementing programmes serving the Rule of Law and Good Governance in the countries of the Arab League; in particular designing, supervising and conducting studies and researches as well training activities relating to the judicial domain

 Visit of His Excellency Michel Suleiman, President of the Lebanese Republic, (March 20, 2010)

A delegation from the Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) and the University of Notre Dame visited His Excellency the President of the Lebanese Republic, Michel Suleiman on Saturday March 20, 2010. The goal of this visit was to inform His Excellency about the publication of a book entitled "State-building in Lebanon" that includes a series of seminars held in cooperation between ACRLI and the University of Notre Dame and that were sponsored by His Excellency. The delegation also dedicated a copy of this book to HE.

 “Provision of Legal Training Components for Legal Institutions of Iraq-LTI” Project (2009-2010)

The Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity is in the process of implementing a project entitled “Provision of Legal Training Components for Legal Institutions of Iraq- LTI” which comes within a broader Rule of Law (RoL) program implemented by UNDP Iraq.
The primary purpose of the program is to improve the functioning of pilot courts in Baghdad, Erbil and Basra, and the overall functioning of the HJC, MoJ, and JTI through a diverse set of legal training activities tailored to each institution on a 14 month period of time.

 Training sessions, on Commercial Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in Lebanon, Tunisia, Yemen, UAE (March 2010)

Within MENA CLS project ACRLI organized eight training sessions on Commercial Dispute Resolution Mechanisms (2 per country) in each of the project’s pilot countries (Lebanon, Tunisia, Yemen and UAE) during the month of March 2010.  These training sessions targeted lawyers and Businesspersons with an average of forty trainees per session, were divided as follows: Session one focused on complex commercial litigation and Session two focused on alternative dispute resolution mechanism.

 International Conference: "Freedom of Association A Roadmap for the Future" (Egypt - Cairo, 10-13 February 2010)

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation and it's regional partner , the Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity-ACRLI, and its national partners: the National Center for Human Rights-Oman, the Coalition for Fairness- Ramallah and Gaza, and The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights-Cairo, organized a Regional conference in the framework of the project on “Freedom of Association” entitled: “Freedom of Association-a Roadmap for the Future” which was held in The League of Arab States-Cairo, on February 10-13, 2010.

 ACRLI new releases of thematic commercial studies

 ACRLI Awareness campaign of the "Commercial Law Strengthening (CLS)" project

Within the "Commercial Law Strengthening (CLS)" project,  ACRLI organized an Awareness campaign in each pilot country (Lebanon, Tunisia, Yemen, UAE), focusing on key commercial legal issues and its effects on economic growth, as well as building capacity to increase efficient and effective utilization of commercial dispute, resolution mechanisms.

 A Regional Approach for Commercial Law Reform- MENA OECD Business Forum (Morocco - Marrakesh, 22 Nov 2009)

Strong and effective commercial law is the foundation of a dynamic business environment. In this context, the Arab Centre for the Development of the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) held a session on a Regional Approach for Commercial Law reform in the context of the MENA OECD Business Forum to discuss issues related to strengthening demand-side commercial law reform in the MENA region.  ACRLI participation in the Sixth Global Forum on Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity (Doha-Qatar, 7-8 November 2009)

The Arab centre for the development of the rule of law and integrity has participated in the Sixth Global Forum on Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity, held in Doha, Qatar on 7 and 8 November 2009, represented by its general supervisor and secretary. In this context, Dr. Wassim Harb the general supervisor of the Arab center and the general coordinator of the Arab Anti-Corruption and integrity Network, was interviewed on the CNBC TV station (Part1, Part2), on ways of promoting Integrity and fighting corruption.

 

 Launching of three codes of conduct (Lebanon-Broumana, 24-25 Oct 2009)

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation and the Arab Center for the Development of The Rule of Law and Integrity with the support of the EU have launched three Codes of Conduct; "Conduct Rules for Arab Workers trade unions"; "Code of Conduct for Arab Civil Society Organizations"; "Declaration Regarding the Bases of Democratic Practice for Political Parties and Movements", during the national meeting that was held in Broumana-Lebanon on the 24-25 Oct 2009;
These three codes are the results of actions and efforts of regional experts, members of civil organizations, unions and parties.

 National Workshops on Commercial Law as a Tool to Promote Economic Development in Lebanon, Tunisia, Yemen and UAE (Dec 2008 - Jan 2009)

Expert Group Meeting on "Strengthening Good Governance Practices in Conflict Afflicted Countries: Current Priorities and Future Interventions" (27-28 Feb 2009)

Mr. Elie Chalhoub, lawyer and partner in the Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity participated in an Expert Group Meeting on “Strengthening Good Governance Practices in Conflict Affected Countries: Current Priorities and Future Interventions” hosted by UN-ESCWA, on 27-28 February 2009, at UN House, Beirut, where Mr. Chalhoub presented a paper on "Corporate governance: The private sector and enterprises owned by the State".

 ACRLI's  Board of Trustees

ACRLI organized the first meeting of the board of trustees that was held on January 22, 2010 in Beirut – Le Royal Hotel, Dbayeh. All 17 members from different Arab countries elected the chairman of the Board of Trustees- Ahmad Obeidat- and the members of the executive bureau, and discussed the ACRLI general plan and strategy paper.

Regional conference on "Good Judiciary and Criminal Justice" (29–30 November 2008)

The ministry of Justice in the Lebanese Republic and the Program of Governance in the Arab Region subordinate organized a regional conference on “Good Judiciary and Criminal Justice”  in collaboration with the UNDP in Lebanon. ACRLI participated through in a session about Modernizing criminal laws as an entry point to strengthening justice systems in light of human rights’ norms and standards;
